Norrie vs. Arnaldi: the Brit with Paris memories, the Italian with an indoor drought
A year after beating Alcaraz in the same hall, Norrie arrives with three wins in ten, the same count as Arnaldi; the indoor record settles the market, and my prediction is no bet.

A year ago in the same hall, Cameron Norrie knocked out Carlos Alcaraz, then world number one, on his way to the third round (LTA). He returns this week to defend those points with three wins in his last ten matches. Matteo Arnaldi has the same three from ten. Two ranking places separate them, 40th against 38th, and little else right now.
- The winner meets Ben Shelton, the third seed, who sits this round out.
- The match is third on Court 1, after Darderi–Hijikata and Van Assche–Navone (ATP order of play).
- Arnaldi’s season has worn two faces: eight defeats in his first ten matches on a painful foot, then a Roland Garros semi-final given up to a virus before he could play it.
Vienna left opposite marks
Norrie swept Francisco Cerundolo 6-4 6-1, then fell 6-4 3-6 6-7 to Daniil Medvedev in a third-set tie-break in the last 16 (ATP). Arnaldi went out 5-7 2-6 to L. Darderi on 26 October, a week after a 1-6 4-6 loss to L. Musetti in Lyon. One man left Vienna with a tight match in his legs, the other with two straight-sets defeats.

The hall is the only clear territory
Arnaldi has never won a match at the Paris Masters, a first-round exit in 2024, beaten in qualifying in 2025, and his last indoor win dates back to Vienna last year (Flashscore). On indoor hard, Norrie’s season reads 15-13 and Arnaldi’s 4-9: between the two, the Plenitude Arena in Nanterre should lean towards the Brit.
Two serves that give way
On an indoor court like this, a tour player holds around eight service games in ten. Both men sit under that line, and both return well enough to punish it: breaks both ways, sets running away 6-2 in either direction. Their only previous meeting tells the same story of instability: US Open 2023, Arnaldi through 6-3 6-4 6-3 on hard. When the match ball hangs on a second serve that slows down, the game count follows the luck of the day.
At 1.45, the price has already weighed the hall
Norrie stands at 1.45 with Unibet on Monday morning, after opening at 1.50; Arnaldi remains 2.87 with Betano. At 1.45, the market gives the Brit about 69%, and that price already accounts for his Paris record as much as for Arnaldi’s indoor drought. The games line was the remaining option: over 23.5 games at 2.14 with Unibet, a price that asks to be right almost half the time, on a market where the bookmakers’ cut runs past 8%. Once I set my read against the price, the edge falls under 1%: too thin for a stake.
With no clear edge, no bet on this first round: anyone who wants to run a price through the filter can use the Kelly calculator, and my public record stays away from this one. 18+. Only bet what you can afford to lose.
