Nakashima vs Berrettini: two big serves, and the market has it right
Berrettini is in as a replacement and comes off a Vienna quarter-final; second match on Court 2 on Tuesday, against Nakashima’s serve, the market has this match right: no bet from me.

Matteo Berrettini was not on the Paris Masters entry list. With Félix Auger-Aliassime withdrawing, the alternate got the call: the 46th-ranked Italian arrives in Nanterre with two wins and a Vienna quarter-final in his legs. He knows his first-round opponent well: Brandon Nakashima beat him in Shanghai three weeks ago, 7-6 7-5.
The replacement arrives with matches in his legs
Berrettini’s Vienna week was three matches long: Etcheverry beaten 6-3 6-4, Cobolli retired at 5-2, then De Minaur in the quarter-finals, 6-7 2-6. The final score looks flat, the first set went to a tie-break. Three days later he was called up to replace Auger-Aliassime: this is a player who competed last week, not an alternate dragged in from the cold. The official order of play, published on Monday, puts this match second on Court 2, behind Rublev-Etcheverry, which opens the session at 11:00: expect a start around the middle of the day.
His profile suits the indoors: 80.7 % of service games held over his last ten matches, and a taste for tie-breaks, 0.38 per set. Heavy hitting shortens the points, and the indoor court in Nanterre helps that game. At No. 46, he is not the name you expect in a Masters 1000 first round.
Shanghai already settled it, on the edge
On 9 October in Shanghai, Nakashima won 7-6 7-5. That score says most of it: between these two serves, every set turns on a detail. Nakashima, ranked 18th and seeded 14th, holds 83.1 % of his service games over his last ten matches, Berrettini 80.7 %. Returns matter less on both sides: 17 to 19 % of return games won each. The likeliest script is a tie-break match, and the games market sees it the same way: main line at 25 games, almost exactly the 25.6 the two men’s serving numbers project.
Five matches each, nobody on a run
Two wins and three defeats each over the last five. The nuance is in the detail: Nakashima came through two qualifying rounds in Lyon before losing in three sets to Cobolli, then stumbled against Griekspoor in Vienna in a third-set tie-break; Berrettini put together a real run in Vienna. The Italian has the rhythm, the American the freshness: five days without a match against three.

At 1.65, I cannot see where the market is wrong
Nakashima is priced at 1.65 at BetMGM, Berrettini at 2.30 at Betano, barely moved since the opening. At 1.65, the market gives the American a little under six chances in ten. I see him ahead for the same reasons: the steadier serve, the last head-to-head, the freshness. I do not see him far enough above those 58 % for the price to become interesting. With a day to go, nothing has moved: no physical concern on either side, and prices still posted at 1.65 and 2.30. The market holds its reading, I hold mine.
The other markets neither: over 25 games at 1.85, under 25 at 1.86 at 1xbet, the 1.5-game handicap at 1.89 against 1.91, a tight set score. No clear gap between my numbers and the price. With no edge, the Kelly calculator drops to zero: no bet, nothing added to the public record. The market has read this match well.
This first round is one to watch rather than bet on: two serves holding more than 80 % of service games, tie-breaks in prospect. 18+. Only bet what you can afford to lose.
