Two hours and nine minutes to get past Griekspoor on Saturday, three sets against Hanfmann on Sunday, a doubles win on Monday alongside Arthur Rinderknech: Benjamin Bonzi reached the main draw of the Rolex Paris Masters through qualifying, with three matches in his legs. On Tuesday the Plénitude Arena gives him Taylor Fritz, a Basel semi-finalist 48 hours earlier. The gap in level is real; on this fast indoor court it will be measured in games more than in sets.

Twenty-one aces to reach the main draw

Bonzi’s qualifying run was about content, not just results. Against Griekspoor he served 21 aces and won 81% of points behind his first serve in 2h09; against Hanfmann the final round went 7-5 3-6 6-4. A federation wild-card into qualifying and ranked 99th on 26 October, he is the only Frenchman who came through.

His 82.5% of service games held over ten matches needs a caveat: half the sample comes from Challengers, where holding inflates the numbers. What travels across levels is the hold itself; indoors, on a quick court, Bonzi keeps his service game against almost anyone.

Fritz arrives from Basel with rest

Fritz left a semi-final on the Basel court, beaten 6-7 3-6 by Vacherot after two wins without dropping a set over Shapovalov and Hijikata. Three matches, six sets, sixty-four games in the week: an ordinary load for a top-15 player, followed by two days off and a short trip from Switzerland. Seeded 11th in Paris, he arrives settled.

His serve is why this match can stay close: 87.7% of service games held over ten matches. Two serving games that hold produce tie-breaks; the market’s main games line, at 22.5, tells the same story.

Their only previous meeting was in Madrid in 2025, on clay: Bonzi took the first set 6-4 and then retired. On another surface it says nothing about Tuesday, and I set it aside.

What to watch

  • Bonzi’s legs: three matches in three days is the scenario where the second serve slows and focus drops late in a third set.
  • Fritz’s first serve, which held all week in Basel: on this surface, it decides how many breaks appear.
  • The order of play is out: fourth match on Court 1 on Tuesday, not before 15:30 Paris time; keep an eye on how the earlier matches run.

The bet: Bonzi +3.5 games

At 1.33 the market gives Fritz roughly three chances in four, and I agree on the winner. On the margin I agree less: the 3.5-game handicap, taken at 1.90 with 1xbet, was priced at even money, and I make Bonzi 57% to cover. The price has drifted since the bet was placed, out to 2.00 with Bet365 on Monday evening; my bet stays at the recorded price. The bet survives as long as Bonzi loses by three games or fewer: two tie-breaks (a two-game margin) cover, a 7-6 6-4 (three games) covers; it takes four games or more to beat it, a 6-4 6-4 for instance, in a match where breaks will be rare.

The serve numbers put Bonzi even higher than my probability; part of them comes from Challengers, where opponents return weaker, and I adjust down. What remains is a simple reading: two players who hold serve, a fresher favourite, a tired but serving underdog. The stake follows: 0.5 units, $50, for a net gain of $44.80 if it lands, $50 lost if not. The stake calculation is on the Kelly calculator; the result goes on the public record, as always. 18+. Only bet what you can afford to lose.
