Rennes – Lille: unbeaten at Roazhon Park, up against the tightest defence in Ligue 1
Unbeaten and free-scoring at Roazhon Park, Rennes host second-placed Lille on Sunday, fresh off the long trip to Bodø. I am backing the tight game: under 3 goals at 1.87, money back on 3.

Lille came back from Bodø on Tuesday with the first point of their European campaign, at the end of a trip of more than 800 kilometres north of Oslo. Twenty-four hours later, Rennes played out their third European draw in four matches, against Olympiakos. On Sunday, fifth host second, two points apart, with the same heavy week in their legs.
A team that scores at home, one that leaks away
At Roazhon Park, Rennes have not lost in the league this season: four wins and a draw in five home games, 13 goals scored. Away from Brittany, it is a different side: three straight defeats at Lyon, Paris FC and Nice, 13 goals conceded on those three trips alone. When Franck Haise’s block plays high and the crowd pushes, this team is dangerous; when it has to retreat and run back towards its own goal, it cracks.
The tightest defence in the division
Lille have conceded six goals in nine rounds, and lost once. On Bodø/Glimt’s synthetic pitch, that defence held after the Galatasaray defeat and handed the club its first Champions League point. Olivier Giroud had come off the bench to settle the Lens derby at the end of October. Davide Ancelotti called the trip north “nearly decisive”; his block held, and the long way back from the far north leaves short legs for Sunday. Nor does this stadium frighten the visitors: Lille have won their last two visits to Roazhon, 2-1 last March and 2-0 in February 2025.

Lepaul a doubt, Samba back in the squad
The official line-ups only drop on Saturday, and the match already has its question marks:
- for Rennes, Estéban Lepaul (ankle) was not training with the group early in the week, and Franck Haise said as much: “it is not a very good sign”; Brice Samba (thigh), who missed the trip to Nice, is back in the squad; Rongier and Aït Boudlal, knocked about at Nice, remain doubtful;
- for Lille, Hamza Igamane (knee) is eyeing a December return, Tiago Santos has had knee surgery and Ayase Ueda (foot) is a doubt;
- coming back the other way, Nianzou returns, and the probable line-ups have Bentaleb starting and Ethan Mbappé, suspended for Bodø, available again.
The market leans Rennes, the money slides to Lille
Rennes are favourites at 2.20 with 1xbet from early in the week, Lille at 3.30 with Bet365. Since the odds opened, Rennes have drifted by 3.7% while Lille have tightened by 4.3%: the market reads this one closer than it did when the prices first came out. The midweek European stalemates on both sides probably have something to do with it.
The bet: under 3 goals, money back on 3
I am backing the tight game. Rennes will have the ball and their crowd, but standing in front of them is the tightest defence in the division, back from a trip that leaves short legs: Lille have no need to open the match to leave with something. The bet loses if Rennes find their Strasbourg sharpness against a Lille side running dry that eventually comes apart.
I take under 3 goals at 1.87 with 10BET on Thursday, the line set exactly at 3: 0, 1 or 2 goals and the bet wins (+$21.75 on a $25 stake), exactly 3 goals and the stake is refunded, 4 goals or more and it loses. I make it 55% likely the game stays under the line; at 1.87 the odds imply just over 53.
0.25 units only. My reading is a notch above the market, but the stake is calculated by blending my probability with the bookmakers’, to temper overconfidence, and the edge melts away: minimum stake, and I am not selling value I do not have. The Kelly calculator shows how such a stake is sized, and my public record follows it match after match. 18+, only bet what you can afford to lose.
