On Monday night Everton won at Newcastle, their first away league win of the season. On Thursday they beat the same opponent in the League Cup. On Friday comes a third game in eight days, against a promoted side that last played on Sunday and returns with a familiar face: Frank Lampard, once Everton’s manager, brings his Coventry to Hill Dickinson (BBC).
Everton’s short week
David Moyes is managing his resources. Jack Grealish, left out for a disciplinary matter, missed both games against Newcastle, and the manager has not decided about Friday; Jarrad Branthwaite, back after his concussion protocol, had to come off in the 82nd minute on Monday with cramp in both legs, not thought serious (Brit Brief). The rest of the squad is fit: eighteen outfield players were available before Newcastle.
Coventry: rested, six players short
The promoted club, back in the top flight twenty-five years after leaving it, comes off a win over Sunderland, the work of Sakamoto, Awoniyi and Rudoni, that lifted them out of the relegation zone (Sky Sports). They played on Saturday and have a full week of recovery. Their problem is the treatment room (Coventry Telegraph):
- Onyeka, groin injured in training, doubtful for Friday and not expected back before the international break;
- Thomas, Woolfenden, Eccles and Amenda, all out;
- Wright, long-term thigh injury, working outside.
Seventh against sixteenth, thirteen points to nine: on paper the gap is wide. On legs, it narrows.

My bet: Everton, minimum stake
Everton are at 1.75 at best with Betano in Tuesday evening’s reading, and I take 1.747 with 1xbet. I give Everton 57% to win, nearly two points above the market: blended with the price, the edge melts away and the quote stays at the minimum stake, 0.25 units, $25. If Everton win in normal time, the bet pays $18.68; a draw or a Coventry win loses the $25 stake.
The scenario that wins it: a full squad against the bench of a promoted side stripped of six men. The one that loses it: heavy legs in a third game in eight days, against a rested Coventry that keeps the ball. The stake is calculated from my probability and the market’s, the method is public, and my results are on the public record. 18+. Only bet what you can afford to lose.
