Jonathan Clauss hits back at “totally false interpretations” of his infidelity story

Jonathan Clauss answered the row over an L’Équipe Explore documentary with an Instagram statement on Thursday night. Two days before the trip to Angers, the odds have not moved.

Jonathan Clauss hits back at “totally false interpretations” of his infidelity story

Early this week, a clip from the L’Équipe Explore documentary “Foot et Sexe : l’amour impossible ?” brought a wave of hateful comments down on Jonathan Clauss and his wife. On Thursday night the Nice right-back replied with a long statement posted on Instagram, and his line is firm: the abuse rests, in his words, on a “totally mistaken interpretation of our story”.

The statement makes two points. The anecdote that did the rounds, taken from a night out, “concerned a period of my life before our relationship, more than eight years ago”, Clauss writes, and it “in NO WAY referred to infidelity within our relationship”. He adds that his wife “deserves respect”. The project he signed up for was meant to shed light on “the sometimes self-interested relationships in the world of football”, taking his story “as a counter-example”; the film that aired moved away from that, he says.

On what followed, the accounts differ. Foot Mercato reports that the interview has been withdrawn; RMC Sport and So Foot say only the clip posted on social media was deleted. According to RMC Sport, Clauss was the only active footballer to testify in the documentary.

Angers-Nice: the price has not moved

The affair lives off the pitch, and the market treats it that way. Nice travel to Angers on Sunday; the away win is still 2.117 with 1xbet, the opening price, and it has not shifted. Angers are 3.60 with Bet365. No move prices in any risk from the row, and nothing suggests the player will be left out.

Clauss, 34 and capped 14 times by France, played and scored in the 5-2 win over Rennes last Friday. What to watch before kick-off is Sunday’s team sheet; Friday’s press conference and training will say more than any statement. Our Angers-Nice prediction backs Nice to win for half a unit.
