And yet the market has made its mind up: Clermont, clear favourites. That is the price I want to take apart, because the history between these two clubs and the two treatment rooms point to a tighter game than the odds suggest.<\/p>\n

A black month and a Clermont pack to rebuild<\/h2>\n

Clermont have not won since the 20-6 against Castres on 26 September<\/a>. Since then: the end of the unbeaten home run against UBB (22-23), a thrashing at La Rochelle (38-13), a 23-48 against Leinster in the Champions Cup, and on Saturday a one-point defeat at Vannes (27-26). Christophe Urios does not dodge it: \u201cWe can’t find that reference match\u2026 we’re struggling to score.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tuesday’s session, in the rain, went back to basics: lineout, scrum, defence and discipline under fatigue. The need is there, and the treatment room spares nobody. Away from home, Clermont concede on average 41 points and 5.6 tries a game:<\/p>\n
