Back-row Rodrigo Bruni is out and wing Mateo Carreras remains a doubt: on the eve of the game, Sud Ouest still expects Bayonne to field close to their first-choice XV. Fifth hosts eighth at Jean-Dauger, in front of a crowd that has not seen a home defeat. The winner is priced at 1.26 with Betano; my bet still plays the margin: Lyon +10.5 at 1.83 with 1xbet.

Jean-Dauger holds, but twice by a whisker

Three home games, three wins: Toulon (27-26), Clermont (46-24), Stade Français (35-32). Clermont is the only wide one, the other two came down to a point and to three. Bayonne have won four of the last five Top 14 meetings, including a 49-38; Lyon’s only success was 42-35 at Gerland on 16 May. Away from home the profile flips: 70-28 at Pau, then 45-34 at Toulouse in the previous round. Solid at Jean-Dauger, Bayonne rarely win big.

Four defeats, five tries: the LOU play under pressure

Both sides opened their European campaign last weekend, in different moods. Bayonne beat the Cheetahs 29-27 with a reshuffled side. The LOU lost 33-40 to the Sharks at Gerland: 12-0 down, 14-19 at the break, level late on, then the South African try in added time. Five tries scored, six conceded: plenty of rugby, no result.

Karim Ghezal says it straight: his club has “entered a zone of turbulence” and travels to Jean-Dauger “under pressure”. Four straight defeats, three of them in the Top 14, eighth place on 14 points, three behind their hosts: a Lyon win would lift the LOU above the Aviron. Lyon played their European game on Saturday, Bayonne on Sunday, so the visitors arrive on a full week against a home side playing twice in six days.

Without Bruni, the first-choice XV still holds

Behind that loss and the doubt over Carreras, Sud Ouest’s probable XV has Segonds at fly-half, Coly at scrum-half and hooker Geraci starting against the club he left this summer, with Tambwe on standby if Carreras misses out. One paper, three days out, nothing official: teams are named later and the reading stays cautious.

Lyon +10.5 at 1.83: minimum stake, odds unmoved

At 1.26 on the winner, I pass. On the 10.5-point line, nothing has moved since Monday: 1.85 with Unibet on Lyon +10.5, 1.90 on the other side with 1xbet. Bruni, Carreras, the Sharks defeat: none of it has shifted a price. I stay where I am: I give the LOU a 57% chance of staying within ten points, against 51.1% in the odds. Both sides of the line are priced tight and my edge melts in the quote: minimum stake, 0.25 units, $25, potential return $20.83.

Lyon win, draw, or lose by ten points or fewer: the bet lands. Bayonne win by eleven or more: the $25 is gone. The stake comes from the Kelly calculator, at the floor, and this bet joins my public record, losses included. 18+. Only bet what you can afford to lose.

27-31: Lyon overturn Bayonne at Jean-Dauger through Masi four minutes from the end

Bayonne led 21-12 at the break and Segonds pushed the gap to twelve points after the restart, then the LOU turned everything around: Gabin Lorre and Baptiste Couilloud went over, Segonds gave the Basques the lead back with a penalty on 75, and Iosefo Masi grounded the decisive try a minute later, set up by Jiuta Wainiqolo after a clearance that fell short. Five Lyon tries, and a run of three straight league defeats wiped out in one evening.

My Lyon +10.5 won without touching the margin: the LOU take the game outright, $20.83 for a $25 stake, on the public record. I was after a Lyon side within ten points, and they won the match: the Lyon fundamentals I rated at 57 per cent woke up at the right time. The line barely moved all week, and the floor stake remains the right price for this bet.
