Reigning champions Arsenal sit second on 18 points, unbeaten at home in the league, and host an Everton side in eighth: the name of the winner writes itself. The real business of this match sits one goal lower. Both of Arsenal’s league wins at the Emirates came by the same margin, 2-1 over Chelsea and 2-1 over Leeds, and their latest win, at Nottingham Forest on 18 October, rested on a single shot on target, from substitute Madueke.
The fixture list is doing Everton a favour
Munich has left its marks: 2-2 at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night, rescued by a late equaliser from Declan Rice. A team that keeps 68% of the ball on average spends legs doing it, and those legs have just spent one more evening in Bavaria. At Forest, Arsenal managed one shot on target; three days after that draw, I do not expect the wide-margin version of them.
Everton hold Arsenal, and make it last

| 14 December 2024 | Arsenal – Everton | 0-0 |

Two of the last four meetings finished level, 1-1 in April 2025 and 0-0 in December 2024. The wider record is blunt: Everton have two wins in 35 visits to the Emirates, none in the last seven, and David Moyes has never won there with the Toffees.
Everton’s first crack is a fresh one
Everton’s first defeat of the season came on 17 October, 0-2 against Chelsea, 0.58 expected goals to 1.76 and five shots on target. Before that, four draws in seven games, a low block that concedes little and creates little.
The absentee picture points to a reshuffled Arsenal:
- Saka came off with a thigh problem ten minutes after kick-off in Munich; the medical staff are “a bit worried”, says Arteta, and he looks unlikely for Saturday;
- Saliba (back) and Tzolis (hamstring) remain out: the first targets next month, the second is still weeks away;
- Hincapié (ankle) is the only possible return, back in training before the Bayern game; Arrizabalaga (knock) stays doubtful; Zubimendi is back in the squad, per Arteta;
- Everton have no injury concerns: Mykolenko and Branthwaite played the full 90 against Chelsea, Norgaard is rebuilding rhythm; Maitland-Niles, a former Gunner, remains a doubt.
What the price says
Since the draw in Munich the market has re-rated the champions: Arsenal trade at 1.50 with 1xbet on Friday, up from 1.46 before the Bayern game. My line has moved the same way: taken at 1.96 with Unibet on Wednesday, Everton +1.25 is now no better than 1.87. The market has corrected in the direction of the bet, and the price edge I had when placing it has shrunk.
My bet: Everton +1.25 at 1.96, half a unit
I make Everton +1.25 a 54% chance. Everton win or draw: +$48 net. Arsenal win by exactly one goal: half win, +$24 net, half the stake paid at 1.96, the other half refunded. Arsenal win by two or more: -$50. Half a unit, the stake is fixed: Saka’s thigh points the same way as my reading of a narrow Arsenal win. The Kelly calculator says the same.
Win or lose, this bet goes on my public record. 18+. Only bet what you can afford to lose.
2-0: Arsenal’s centre-backs do the job and the bet falls one goal short
Arsenal needed none of their forwards to settle this one: Ezri Konsa stabbed in the opener from a corner inside seven minutes, and Gabriel Magalhães headed the second from a Ben White cross on 68, a goal confirmed after a video review. Everton never came close to the goal that saved the bet, and the champions move level with City at the top of the table. My read of an Arsenal without margin broke on two headers from centre-backs.
My Everton +1.25 is lost: a one-goal margin would have returned half the stake, and that goal never came. The $50 goes on the public record. Taken at 1.96 with Unibet on Wednesday, the line had closed the right way for the bet, and the pitch decided otherwise. Half a unit priced a scenario I rated at 54 per cent: it did not happen, the loss is clean and it counts.
