Crvena Zvezda v Hapoel Tel Aviv: Oturu tests the hosts’ rebounding

Hapoel Tel Aviv won 80-81 in Belgrade, Elijah Bryant with 18 points and 10 rebounds, and my half-unit bet on Hapoel at 2.06 has won (+$53.20).

Kick-off :
Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet – Hapoel Tel Aviv · EuroLeague · 80-81

Two 0-1 sides meet at the Beogradska arena with very different margins for error. One more defeat and Crvena Zvezda start the season with two home losses; Hapoel travel with a lengthening injury list. The frontcourt duel is why I back the visitors.

The Serbian paint is still Navarro’s building site

The 77-83 defeat to Žalgiris laid it bare: outrebounded 39-46, and Jonathan Motley held to 2 points on 1-for-7 shooting with 6 turnovers. Chris Jones ran the show: 15 points and 8 assists in 18 minutes. Ibon Navarro, who replaced Saša Obradović, named the paint problem after his first game in charge, and his rotation runs wide: nobody played more than 25 minutes in the opener. That bench has to guard Dan Oturu for forty minutes.

The Serbs stayed close to Žalgiris until the final minutes, and the Beogradska arena carries real weight: last season Zvezda and Hapoel split their meetings, each winning at home.

Without Coffey, the first pass goes through Micić

Amir Coffey, out with a leg muscle injury, will miss several weeks. Without him the first Israeli pass will more often come from Vasilije Micić, 14 points against Bayern, with Blakeney and Toppin on 11 each. That trio must feed Dan Oturu early: in Sofia, Hapoel climbed from 57-75 to 82-81 before Johannes Voigtmann’s winner, and the comeback still ended 84-86. Waking up 18 points down costs more in Belgrade.

Oturu arrives with 20 points and 12 rebounds, 5 of them offensive, according to the official box score. Against a defence that has just conceded 46 rebounds, his second chances are my main argument for the visitors.

  • Nikola Đurišić (quadriceps) misses three to four weeks for the hosts; Patrick Baldwin Jr. could start.
  • Tamir Blatt and Tyler Ennis were still without a clear status on Sunday night; Itoudis discussed Blatt without deciding.
  • No starting five has been announced for either side a day out.

My bet has already gained value

Hapoel to win at 2.064 with 1xbet, 0.5 unit ($50): my pick, recorded in the small hours of Monday morning. Since then the market has drifted towards the visitors: 2.238 with 1xbet and 1.70 for Zvezda with BetMGM on Monday, against opening prices of 2.056 and 1.818. At 2.064 the price asked for 48.4% belief; my estimate is 51%, Oturu’s rebounding on one side, the Belgrade crowd on the other.

The stake stays at 0.5 unit on purpose: a game that comes down to one possession does not deserve three units. The Kelly calculator shows what such a small edge is worth; the result will go on my public record, loss included. 18+. Only bet what you can afford to lose.

80-81: Hapoel survive the Serbian comeback

Hapoel Tel Aviv led by ten at the break (35-45) in front of 14,247 fans, then held on through the closing minutes: Elijah Bryant finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 steals for a 31 PIR, and Vasilije Micic, silent from three for three quarters (1 of 10), hit two in a row in the last to break the Serbian comeback. Jared Butler kept Crvena Zvezda alive with 19 points, and his buzzer attempt only set the final score: 80-81. Zvezda took 51 rebounds to 38 and lost 13 balls to 6: a second defeat in two rounds, both at home.

My half-unit bet on Hapoel, taken at 2.06 with 1xbet, has won: +$53.20. The close, at 4.60, had made Crvena Zvezda a heavy favourite; Belgrade answered 80-81, and Hapoel took their first win of the season against the market.
