Djokovic vs Humbert: fifteen years after Basel, nineteen days without a match
Novak Djokovic plays Basel for the first time since 2011, after nineteen days without a match. At 1.38 against Humbert, no clear edge: no bet.

On Wednesday at the St. Jakobshalle, Novak Djokovic plays his first Basel match since 2011. A title here in 2009, a final in 2010, a semi-final in 2011: 12 wins and 2 defeats in this hall, then fifteen years away. In on a wild card, seeded fourth, he opens his tournament against Ugo Humbert.
Turin and a 103rd title in his sights
Eleventh in the race to Turin, 319 points behind the last qualifying spot, Djokovic is here for the points of a record nineteenth Finals appearance. A 103rd title would draw him level with Federer; his 102nd came in Beijing in early October. Basel was added to his schedule after the Six Kings Slam moved to December, and the draw has opened around him with the withdrawals of Tsitsipas, Bublik and Davidovich Fokina.
Nineteen days without a match
His last match was on 9 October, a defeat against Hubert Hurkacz in Shanghai. Since then, nineteen days off, partly filled on Sunday by a closed-doors practice with Stan Wawrinka. On arrival he explained what the hall promises him: no heat, no sun, fewer outside factors than an outdoor season in which he has often struggled. At 39, the question of this opener is not his level, it is his tempo.
Humbert, a dangerous left-hander who has stopped winning
The Frenchman, ranked 32nd, sits on two wins in ten matches: defeats against Moutet in Lyon in a third-set tie-break, Gea in Shanghai, Lehecka in Tokyo. A left-hander at home indoors, described by the ATP as a dangerous opening test in these conditions. Yet he holds only 74.5% of his service games across his last ten matches, where Djokovic holds 81.8%, and the Serb leads their only previous meeting, at Wimbledon in 2019.
Their last five matches, Djokovic’s all played in October:

At 1.38, everything is priced but the rust
Tuesday evening, Djokovic trades at 1.38 with 1xbet, slightly down from his 1.40 opening, and Humbert at 3.25 with Unibet. With the margin removed, the price gives the Serb about 69.5%; I land on the same figure. What the price cannot measure is the nineteen-day break: I see it weighing on the first set, not deciding the match. The handicap and total-games lines carry around 8% margin, too expensive for a reading that hinges on rhythm.
No bet on this Basel return. The staking method stays the same, and a public record gains nothing from a forced bet; the market has weighed this one well. If you bet anyway, 18+, only bet what you can afford to lose.
