Anadolu Efes – Bayern Munich: a 6.5-point line for a team missing Mike James

Bayern win 101-93 in Istanbul and my Bayern +6.5 at 1.93 never needs the cushion: $23.25 net on the minimal 0.25 unit stake.

Kick-off :
Anadolu Efes – Bayern Munich · EuroLeague · 93-101

The last two duels between these clubs finished 81-80 and 74-72. On Wednesday in Istanbul the market hangs 6.5 points on Efes, at 1.40 to win at home. A team that has just lost 89-66 at Olympiacos, without its best offensive weapon, does not win by six and a half points. I am taking Bayern with the points.

Efes have stopped scoring

15th and 17th in the table, both sides on one win in four. Mike James tore his Achilles tendon against Red Star on matchday three: surgery, seven to nine months out. His replacement, Cameron Payne, arrived from Partizan and scored 12 points on his debut at Olympiacos; Efes lost 89-66. Their offence is the second worst in the EuroLeague, the defence sixth. Saric finished that game on 1 point, Bruno Fernando on 0. The only win came at home, against Real Madrid.

Bayern arrive with a full squad

In the Bundesliga on Saturday the club left Jokubaitis, Lucic and Thiemann on the bench at Chemnitz and won 87-83. On Tuesday the club preview wrote that Gavel “currently has all his players at his disposal”: no Munich name appears on the Basketball Sphere injury table, updated on Sunday evening. BasketNews still lists the three as questionable, with no reason given for their absence in Chemnitz. Oscar da Silva, 18 points in Bologna, is the most reliable Munich player.

In the same preview Gavel sees an Efes side “not yet at the level of its huge potential”, and Justus Hollatz, a former Efes player, asks his team for forty physical minutes with no let-up. The week stays heavy: three away games in five days, Efes on Wednesday, Besiktas on Friday, then the cup in Hamburg on Sunday.

The recent duels come down to one or two points

Efes have won the last five meetings between the clubs, ten of sixteen since 2018-19. Last season they beat Bayern twice, 74-72 at home and 81-80 away. The straight Bayern win has tightened to 3.30 at 888Sport on Tuesday, from 3.515 at the open; the main line has not moved: Efes -6.5, both sides at 1.93.

What I am watching

  • Cameron Payne’s second home game: 12 points at Olympiacos, and 66 for the whole team, his connection with the big men will say whether the attack restarts;
  • the Efes sickbay beyond Mike James: the club has still not filed an injury report for this round, and Papagiannis (knee) and Cordinier remain certain absentees;
  • Gavel’s rotation: everyone is announced as available, and Besiktas on Friday is played in the same Istanbul hall, so he can rotate without travel;

My pick: Bayern +6.5, 0.25 units

I make Bayern 54 percent with six and a half points in hand. The site blends that estimate with the market’s 50 percent: almost no edge left, and the calculated stake is the minimum. 0.25 units, $25, and I am not hiding it: the market has read this game about as well as I have.

The conditions: Bayern +6.5 at 1.93 with 1xbet. The pick wins if Bayern win or lose by six points or fewer, overtime included; it loses by seven points or more. A win pays $23.25 net, a loss takes the $25. To size this stake for your own bankroll, the Kelly calculator does the maths, and my full history is on the public record.

Six and a half points of cushion do not remove the risk: 18+. Only bet what you can afford to lose.

Bayern never needed the six and a half points

Bayern win 101-93 in Istanbul, in front of 3,603 spectators: their second win in five rounds and the first since the opener. My line offered a six-and-a-half-point cushion, and it was never used. Munich led 26-22 after ten minutes, 54-46 at half-time, and Efes won only the third quarter, 22-21 (quarter scores on the official game page). The $25 staked at 1.93 pays $23.25 net.

The Efes attack I thought could restart did restart, and it was not enough. Payne scored 18 points (4 of 7 from three), Strazel 15, and the team put up 93, far from their 66 at Olympiacos. Saric, on 1 point against Olympiacos, rose to 21 with the best PIR of the game (28); Fernando, silent there, grabbed 12 rebounds here. The defence leaked instead: 13 three-pointers from 30 for Munich (21 points off the bench from Washington, 20 from Obst), against 8 from 28 for Efes.

The Efes run of five straight wins in this fixture ends. The market priced Efes at 1.40: my line aged better than the price, but the stake stayed what it was, 0.25 units without a clear edge. On Friday Bayern play again in the same hall, at Besiktas.
