Panathinaikos v Hapoel Tel Aviv: a 5-0 leader at home, Itoudis back where he won five titles
Hapoel Tel Aviv beat Panathinaikos 91-81 in Athens: the Greeks’ first defeat of the season. My Hapoel +8.5 at 1.90 is won, +$22.50.

Panathinaikos stand alone at the top of the EuroLeague, five wins in five games, and the club has called on supporters to fill the Telekom Center for a sixth. On the other side comes Dimitris Itoudis: thirteen years as Željko Obradović’s assistant on this bench (1998-2012), five EuroLeague titles to his name. And his team just put 100 points on Besiktas.
Athens are unbeaten, but lighter
PAO closed the double week with a 72-55 win in Belgrade against Partizan on Monday. Mathias Lessort is running at 21.2 in valuation, the team at 89.4 points scored. The Greek press celebrates the 5-0 and already debates the basketball behind it. The injury list is moving on both sides:
- Nikos Rogkavopoulos (a strain in the back of his left thigh, picked up against Partizan): out, confirmed by the club, improving, no return targeted;
- Kendrick Nunn and Kostas Sloukas: zero minutes this season, status unconfirmed for Friday;
- Bar Timor (illness), Tomer Ginat (knee), Tyler Ennis (Achilles tendon) and Tamir Blatt (left out of the group): absent for Hapoel;
- Edwin Jackson: doubtful, on one tracker only.
PAO’s medical report had still not been filed by the day before the game. Juancho Hernangómez, for his part, returned to the rotation on Monday.
A hundred points on Wednesday, the legs on Friday
Hapoel sit sixth, three wins and two defeats, after 100-82 over Besiktas on Wednesday: five players at fifteen points or more (Micic, Bryant, Coffey, LeDay, Blakeney), 11/20 from three, and Elijah Bryant, MVP of the week for the second time in a row, at 24.4 in valuation. The rotation was cut as early as the fourth quarter, with one eye already on Athens. Their only real defeat of the season goes back to an 82-93 in Valencia.
The drawback is physical: three games in six days, domestic league on Sunday, Sofia on Wednesday, Athens on Friday. Itoudis set the programme in his pregame presser: “we will have to absorb the physicality, control the ball, take good shots and win the battle of the boards.” Zach LeDay is just as careful: one of the hardest games the league offers.
The price has already picked its side
The winner is sold in advance: Panathinaikos at 1.31, opened at 1.38; Hapoel at 4.00. The main line is -8, the total 169.5. At that price, the outright offers nothing left: the whole game plays out on the margin.
My bet: Hapoel Tel Aviv +8.5
I take Hapoel +8.5 at 1.90 with BetMGM, odds taken this Thursday. The market gives this bet exactly 50%; I make it 56%. The edge is real but thin: 0.25 units, $25 (18+. Only bet what you can afford to lose). To recalculate a stake from a probability and a price, the staking calculator does it live.
The outcomes, plainly: Hapoel win or lose by eight points or fewer, the bet wins (+$22.50); they lose by nine or more, the bet loses (-$25). Overtime included.
Why +8.5 rather than the main line at 8: half a point more, for three cents less (1.90 against 1.93). A game that tightens in the closing minutes often settles on an eight-point margin, precisely the tipping point. What makes me believe: an attack with five options in full confidence, a Panathinaikos already running with a cut rotation, and an Itoudis who knows this arena better than anyone. What can sink the bet: the crowd chasing the sixth win, Lessort in the paint, legs loaded by the week. The stake matches that doubt. The result will go on my public record.
Hapoel win in Athens and the 5-0 run is over
Hapoel Tel Aviv won 91-81 at the Telekom Center, Panathinaikos’s first defeat of the season. Itoudis’s return to the opposite bench went the whole way: Francisco’s 22 points were not enough, Bryant and LeDay struck in the last three minutes, and the Greek unbeaten run stopped there.
The pick won without being needed: when the outsider takes the game, eight and a half points no longer matter. Hapoel +8.5 at 1.90 with BetMGM returns $22.50 on the $25 stake. My 56% against the market’s 50% held, and the win goes to the record.
