Hapoel Tel Aviv – Virtus Bologna: the 1.30 favourite plays its home game in Bulgaria
Hapoel Tel Aviv win 90-81 after a 28-14 third quarter. My Virtus Bologna +8.5 taken at 1.94 loses by half a point: $125 to the public record, and the Italian streak stops at four.

The EuroLeague opens Round 7 with the tightest pairing of the programme: two teams on 4-2, sixth against seventh. The market sees a game already decided: 1.30 for Hapoel Tel Aviv with 1xbet on Tuesday, eight and a half points to give away for Virtus Bologna. The Italians arrive on four straight wins at 93 points a game. That is where I look for my bet.
Two teams on 4-2, only one favourite
Their paths look alike. Hapoel have beaten Real Madrid, then Panathinaikos in Athens. Virtus have put Olympiacos, Bayern, Paris and Baskonia in a row after opening the season with two defeats.
| Round | Hapoel Tel Aviv | Virtus Bologna |
|---|---|---|
| R4 | defeat in Valencia (93-82) | win in Munich (94-87) |
| R5 | win over Beşiktaş (100-82) | win in Paris (96-94) |
| R6 | win in Athens (91-81) | win over Baskonia (86-78) |
Both teams win at home and on the road: Hapoel stand at 2-1 home and 2-1 away, Virtus at 2-0 and 2-2. The real gap is momentum: four wins in a row for the Italians, two for the Israelis. On the Virtus side, Mumbru sees Hapoel as “a team built to go to the Final Four” and travels to Sofia “to try to win”, he tells Il Resto del Carlino.
A favourite with no arena of its own
For security reasons, Hapoel do not play in Israel: their “home” games are staged at the Arena 8888 in Sofia, where the club ticket office lists the season’s fixtures. The team holds its rank there, two wins in three. I cannot read eight points of home advantage into it: Virtus travel to a third country, not to Tel Aviv.
Micic against Carr, and benches that score
The game starts with the ball: Vasilije Micic carries it for Hapoel, Marcus Carr runs it for Virtus. The stat sheets tell the same story on both sides.
- Elijah Bryant (Hapoel): EuroLeague leader in PIR at 24.0 a game, ten points or more in nine straight games;
- Vasilije Micic (Hapoel): at least one three-pointer in eight straight games;
- Marcus Carr (Virtus): third in the league in assists at 5.8 a game, ten points or more in six straight;
- Aliou Diarra (Virtus): EuroLeague leader in blocks at 2.2 a game, PIR of 10 or more in seven straight;
- Derrick Alston (Virtus): ten points or more in nine of his last ten.
On the injury front, the day before tip-off everything still comes from the aggregators: the BasketNews list rules Oz Blayzer, Guy Palatin and Tyler Ennis (Achilles tendon) out for Hapoel, with Tomer Ginat (knee), Bar Timor (illness) and Khadeen Carrington doubtful. For Virtus, Tommaso Baldasso is expected back: left out in Round 6 by the coach’s choice, he played in the domestic league on Sunday, while Matteo Baiocchi and Davide Casarin stay doubtful. The official EuroLeague report, published on game day, will give the real rotations.
I take Virtus +8.5 at 1.94
An eight-and-a-half-point line sits above the real gap between these two teams, in my view. Taken on Monday at 1.94 with 1xbet, the bet is already ahead of the market: the main line has moved to eight points on Tuesday, and the best price on +8.5 has slipped to 1.91 with BetMGM. At the take, the market gave Virtus slightly less than a coin flip (49.9%). I make it 58%: same record, an Italian side winning everywhere, and a “home” game relocated to Sofia. The market prices Hapoel as if the arena were in Tel Aviv.
Virtus win or lose by eight points or fewer, overtime included: the bet wins, $117.50 on top of my $125 stake. Hapoel win by nine or more: the $125 is gone. The 1.25-unit stake comes from the Kelly calculator: quarter of the full stake, my probability blended with the market’s. This bet joins my public record, losses included. 18+. Only bet what you can afford to lose.
90-81: Hapoel flip the game after the break
The read held for a half. Virtus led 17-10, then 48-36 at the break on a 23-13 second quarter: twelve points clear, with the pick ahead. The third quarter flipped everything, 28-14 to Hapoel, and Zach LeDay closed the game on 22 points and 10 rebounds. Vasilije Micic, the ball carrier on the Hapoel side, added 16. The quarter-by-quarter report is at BasketNews.
The pick loses by half a point: 81 plus 8.5 makes 89.5 against 90. Taken on Monday at 1.94, the line was down to 1.91 at the close: the market came around to the read, the score never did. A $125 loss, the 1.25 units, on the public record. Hapoel move to 5-2, a third straight win; the Virtus streak stops at four, in Sofia.
