Olimpia Milan v Virtus Bologna: a rematch already, with fresh doubts

Olimpia Milan beat Virtus Bologna 87-85 on Devon Hall’s buzzer shot, and my half-unit bet on Virtus at 3.30 is lost ($50).

Kick-off :
Olimpia Milan – Virtus Bologna · EuroLeague · 87-85

The Italian derby returns to the Unipol Forum with both clubs at 0-1 and an injury list that grew on Monday on both sides. September’s Supercup already settled the head-to-head; the odds have barely moved since. The bet I placed on Virtus on Sunday stands, at a small stake.

Milan grind through the double week

On Sunday Olimpia ground out an 83-79 league win over Trieste while resting Peters and Booker. In the Belgrade opener, Carlik Jones put up 20 points and 10 assists against them: ball protection remains Peppe Poeta’s building site. The schedule gives no breathing room: Virtus on Tuesday, Baskonia on Friday.

Without Kokila, Mumbrú’s style loses its anchor

Kevin Kokila, out with a grade 1 biceps femoris injury in his right thigh, will miss the derby; sources disagree between two and four weeks, but Tuesday’s absence is confirmed on the EuroLeague injury list. Virtus lose their inside anchor just as the identity shows: on Sunday at Varese, the Bologna press hailed a first half of fast pace and early shots, Mumbrú’s signature. The Istanbul failure remains: when a big man locks the defensive glass the way Braxton Key did, the fast breaks die.

  • Garrison Mathews, Milan’s new wing: no official game this season, a muscle issue; Poeta decides at Tuesday morning’s shootaround.
  • Also in Milan, Akele is all but certain to miss the twelve, with Tonut, Flaccadori and Diop on the bubble.
  • For Virtus, Casarin sits outside the twelve and two more cuts are expected.

The three results the two clubs share this season:

Competition Fixture Result

EuroLeague round 1 Partizan v Milan 92-76
EuroLeague round 1 Fenerbahçe v Virtus 78-68

At 3.30 I keep Virtus without adding

Virtus to win at 3.30 with 888Sport, 0.5 unit ($50): my pick, recorded in the small hours of Monday, and it stands. The market has barely moved: Milan still 1.391 with 1xbet, Virtus now 3.20 with BetMGM. At 3.30 the price asks Bologna to win a shade under once in three. I make it 33%: the last five European derbies put Milan ahead only 3-2, and Mumbrú’s pace can break any Milan plan.

Without Kokila the bet loses one of its props, so I am not adding to it: the stake stays at 0.5 unit. The Kelly calculator frames that risk; the result goes on my public record, loss included. 18+. Only bet what you can afford to lose.

87-85: Devon Hall decides at the buzzer

Olimpia Milan opened a ten-point lead in the first quarter (30-20), Virtus Bologna moved in front at the end of the third (66-67), and Devon Hall settled the derby on the final possession. Aliou Diarra finished with 15 points and the game-best PIR (22) for Virtus, who passed 20 assists to Milan’s 12. An altercation after the buzzer, around Garrison Mathews, closed a tight night.

My half-unit bet on Virtus, taken at 3.30 with 888Sport, is lost: $50. Virtus did the work for three quarters, led by one going into the last, and lost on the final possession. The close, 3.26, had changed nothing: this derby was always coming down to one basket, and it went to Milan.
