Paris – ASVEL: take the -5.5, leave the 1.48

Paris -5.5 lost: ASVEL won 98-96 at the Adidas Arena and broke the home streak, the first road win in five meetings.

Kick-off :
Paris Basketball – LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne · EuroLeague · 96-98

Four EuroLeague meetings between Paris and ASVEL since December 2024, four home wins. On Wednesday the series returns to the Adidas Arena, and the winner already has a price: at 1.48 with BetMGM on Tuesday, backing Paris is not a bet, it is a toll. What is still for sale is the margin.

Both teams stand at one win and two defeats. Paris have just beaten Zalgiris 82-78, a first win of the season; ASVEL followed an 84-74 victory over Maccabi with two defeats, at Panathinaikos and then 92-105 against Valencia. The records look alike; the form does not. Paris won their last game, ASVEL lost their last two.

Four home wins, almost identical margins

This derby runs like a metronome: each club has won its two home games, by near-identical margins.

Meeting Home team Score
December 2024 ASVEL 98-93
2024-25 season Paris 91-82
December 2025 ASVEL 94-89
March 2026 Paris 90-81

Nine points each time for Paris at home, five for ASVEL. In this fixture the home crowd does not just pick the winner: it sets the size of the margin.

Poupet meets his old club

Maxime Lefèvre leads the Paris bench with Pierric Poupet as associate coach. Poupet coached ASVEL for five years, and he makes no secret of the reunion: he is “very keen to come away with the win”. Across the aisle, Tony Parker is living his first season as a EuroLeague head coach, the president who moved to the bench. Poupet finds him “rather comfortable” in the role.

Three days after Le Mans, legs come first

Both clubs played in the French championship on Sunday. Paris won 103-101 at Le Mans on a Hifi buzzer-beater, 33 points for him; ASVEL travelled to Gravelines-Dunkerque. The LNB set out the risk last week: if Tyson Etienne and T.J. Warren play heavy minutes on Sunday, Wednesday pays for it. Their minutes at Le Mans are my first data point of the evening. A ball-handler running on empty in the last quarter gives the ball away, and in a game decided by six points, one turnover is expensive. The line at 176 points looks high for two attacks averaging 77.7 and 85.0 points in the EuroLeague. The over, opened at 1.79, stands at 1.95 with 1xbet on Tuesday: the market expects fewer points.

A rebuilt ASVEL, cut short by injuries

The squad has a new look: Mills, Crowder, S. Francisco and Besson arrived, and Parker’s first European win was carried by a 19-year-old, Marc-Owen Fodzo Dada, against Maccabi. BeBasket reads the team as “struggling in the half court”. The numbers agree: 84 points scored against Maccabi, 92 with 105 conceded against Valencia. ASVEL scores, and leaks.

The injury report updated on Monday evening, to be checked against the team sheets:

  • for ASVEL, TyTy Washington (ankle) and Mathis Dossou-Yovo (groin, out until November) are missing;
  • for Paris, Terry Tarpey is doubtful;
  • Frank Ntilikina and Mãozinha Pereira are in the Paris squad, but Monday’s report leaves them out of the twelve.

The bet: Paris -5.5, stake at the floor

At 1.48 a Paris win leaves nothing to squeeze. I move to the handicap: Paris -5.5 is 1.93 with 1xbet, a price frozen since 29 September. The odds make the line a coin flip, 51.8%; I make it 55. Home advantage in this derby, the Lyon injury list and the post-Zalgiris momentum are worth more than five and a half points.

The bet reads in one line: Paris win by six or more, overtime included, and $25 returns $23.25 net; Paris win by five or fewer, or ASVEL win, and the stake is gone.

The stake says the conviction: 0.25 units. My 55% against the 51.8% the price asks is a real edge, but a thin one, so the stake stays at the floor. To fit a stake to your own estimate, the Kelly calculator does the maths in ten seconds; this pick joins my public record, where every bet settles at the result, won or lost. 18+. Only bet what you can afford to lose.

The home streak died at the Adidas Arena

ASVEL won 98-96. The fifth meeting between these clubs since December 2024 produced the first road win: the four-for-four home pattern that carried my handicap failed its first test. Paris -5.5 needed a win by six or more; Paris lost by two, and the $25 floor stake is gone.

The closing price tells the story: 2.08 at the close against the 1.93 when I placed the bet. The market saw this handicap worse than I did, and it was right. Only my doubt about the points line ran the wrong way: 194 in total, far above the 176 I called high.
