Two points from six matches: Le Havre sit bottom of Ligue 1 without a single win. Auxerre, 16th, have moved above them on six points, all of them collected at home. On the road, the AJA have played three and lost three. On Sunday at the Stade Océane, two teams that cannot win meet, and the market cannot separate them.

Le Havre shoot plenty, and barely score

This match will be played in the last thirty metres at both ends. Le Havre shoot often and convert almost nothing: four goals in six rounds, and one goal in two home league games (0-0 against Angers, 1-2 against Brest). After the defeat at Lille, the club posted “It will end up smiling on us…”, and Didier Digard said: “I will do everything I can so that my players turn things around.” The spirit holds. The finishing, in front of goal, does not follow.

Five recent matches, two friendlies in there

The table says the essentials, with one trap: the two highest-scoring lines are mid-break friendlies played in early October. The market ignores them, and so do I. In the league, Le Havre are four games without a win; Auxerre had put together two home victories against Brest and Nice before collapsing, at Rennes above all (1-4).

20/09 Auxerre Brest (h) Ligue 1 2-1
12/09 Auxerre Nice (h) Ligue 1 1-0
04/09 Auxerre Lyon (a) Ligue 1 1-3

Recent head-to-heads lean the same way: Le Havre have taken ten points from the last four meetings (three wins, one draw), and the last two, 0-1 and 1-1, stayed at two goals or fewer.

Both treatment rooms are busy

Both squads arrive depleted, and the AJA published an injury list with six absentees for this trip on Friday, according to Actu AJA.

  • Le Havre: Seko suspended; Pembélé, Mambimbi, Mpasi, Zagadou and Touré out. Jelert’s thigh had worried the staff since the break: the full-back does not start.
  • Auxerre: Diousse, S. Fofana and Okoh out; Senaya, Siwe and Mandengue, doubtful all week, do not start; Makosso, back from suspension, goes straight into the back line.
  • The official line-ups settle the doubts: Richardson starts for the HAC, Oppegård and Ahamada line up in the AJA’s five-man midfield, and Labeau-Lascary does not start.

The official line-ups field a front three of Maja, Samatta and Nakamura for the HAC, with Namaso and Archer up front for Auxerre. Digard’s words after Lille remain the reference on the home side.

A favourite at 2.42, and a market not fooled

Le Havre are favourites at 2.42 with 1xbet, the draw at 3.51, Auxerre at 3.20 with Bet365. The home price has shortened from 2.52 since opening: the market is backing Le Havre at home. In round numbers it gives Le Havre just over 40 %, barely more than Auxerre. I leave the winner alone: with two attacks in this state, the goal total tells me more about this match.

Under 2.5 goals at 1.99: half a unit

I take under 2.5 goals at 1.99 with 1xbet. The market puts it just short of a coin flip; I make it 53 %. What wins the bet: two cautious blocks, one home league goal for Le Havre in two games, tight recent head-to-heads, attacks missing their creators. What loses it: a game that opens up as soon as the first goal goes in, as at Toulouse (2-3) or Rennes (1-4) when the plan fell apart. The 6-1 friendly win over Boulogne does not count: nobody prices a mid-break friendly.

0, 1 or 2 goals: the bet wins, $49.55 net from a $50 stake. Three or more: it loses. The stake is 0.5 units: my estimate sits above the market, but only just, and the staking method reflects that. The Kelly calculator shows how the amount is worked out.

1-3: Namaso opens it, Faivre closes it

Le Havre lost 1-3 to Auxerre at the Stade Océane. Danny Namaso opened in the 40th minute and doubled the lead in the 61st, Rayan Fofana pulled one back in the 66th, and Romain Faivre sealed it in the 80th, from outside the box. Auxerre, who had taken nothing on the road, have their first away win of the season; Le Havre, bottom, are still waiting for their own. The play-by-play on ESPN has the rest.

The scenario the bet feared is the one that played out: a goal before the break, a game that opens up, as at Toulouse and at Rennes once the plan had blown. The 2.5-goal line did not last an hour.

The pick is lost: under 2.5 goals at 1.99 with 1xbet died on the third goal, in the 66th minute. A $50 loss, the half unit, on the public record.
