Three wins in three games, and a goal conceded every time: 2-1 against Cyprus, 3-2 in Yerevan, 2-1 in Latvia. Montenegro lead their Nations League group on nine points, and Podgorica expects a full stadium to keep the perfect run going. The market has already named its winner. My bet chases the Armenian goal.
Montenegrin legs, the variable of the night
Mirko Vučinić called this the hardest team selection of the window in front of his federation’s press: a fourth game in eleven days, and “everyone wants to play” through the fatigue. His midfielder Marko Janković put the risk in one line: “the physically freshest team will win”.
A tired team does not lose the ball more often: it loses it higher up. The lines push to breathe, the gaps between them grow, and opposition counters live in that space. Montenegro can win the game and be opened up in the same ninety minutes.
An Armenia short of men, obliged to attack
Third on three points after Friday’s 0-2 in Cyprus, Armenia must win to keep a real chance of qualification. Yeghishe Melikyan did not dress it up in front of his federation’s press: “human resources remain very limited”, a very young squad, and a game they have to win. On Friday he had already called himself “the first person responsible” for the defeat at the final whistle. His XI is out: a 4-3-3, with Iwu, at his side in front of the press yesterday, in midfield.
A team that needs a goal does not sit in its block for ninety minutes, and this one could not anyway:
- eight players already ruled out by the squad list of 17 September: Bichakhchyan, Geraghty, Ranos, Davidyan, K. Hovhannisyan, H. Harutyunyan, Avagyan, Briasco;
- Gharibyan, injured in the warm-up before Cyprus, and Bandikyan, hurt during the game;
- on the Montenegrin side, the official XI starts Janković in midfield and Krstović with Osmajić up front.
Four of the last five meetings, goals at both ends
Head-to-head history points to the same open game:
| Date | Match | Score |
|---|---|---|
| 09/06/2025 | Montenegro-Armenia (friendly) | 2-2 |
| 24/03/2022 | Armenia-Montenegro (friendly) | 1-0 |
| 10/06/2017 | Montenegro-Armenia (World Cup qualifying) | 4-1 |
| 11/11/2016 | Armenia-Montenegro (World Cup qualifying) | 3-2 |
A week ago in Yerevan, Armenia scored twice against Montenegro with a fuller squad than tonight’s. They travel with more absentees now, and one obligation more: to attack.
The bet: both teams to score, yes
The market has already worked this game over: yes has dropped from 2.05 to 1.87 at Unibet, and Montenegro are down to 1.57 at Betano. At 1.87, the price barely offers more than an even chance of an open game. I make it 57 per cent.
The winning script is one line long: Montenegro win again and concede again. The losing script played out on Friday: an Armenia that stayed silent in Cyprus. The stake is 0.5 units ($50), sized to that risk; the edge was clear at 2.05, it has narrowed on its own, and I am not talking it up. Both score: +$43.50. One team silent: −$50. To run it with your own numbers, the Kelly calculator is there; the bet then joins my public record, whatever it returns.

A 0-0 that closed the match down
Montenegro and Armenia drew 0-0 in Podgorica. Montenegro stay top with ten points from twelve, but drew a blank for the first time this window; Armenia stayed mute for the second time in four days, with a sixth-minute Harutyunyan header and little else.
My bet, both teams to score at 1.87, has lost: 0.5 unit, $50. The losing scenario I had flagged, an Armenia unable to score, repeated itself, and Montenegrin fatigue, that variable of the evening, did not open the match, it closed it. The loss is clean-cut, and it goes on the record like the wins.
