The MKM Stadium will be full on Sunday: promoted Hull City host an unbeaten Everton side in the biggest home match of their season. Everton’s last league visit to the MKM goes back to December 2016; since then the two clubs have only met in the FA Cup, in 2022. First Premier League season in ten years, sell-out tickets announced: the club could not ask for more.

Jakirović’s 5-4-1 lives on scraps

Sergej Jakirović has built the start of the season on a back five and barely 29.4 % of possession across the first five rounds. Six goals scored, four conceded, eight points where his creation numbers were worth barely five: Hull survive more than they dominate, and a full stadium does not give you the ball. On Friday the coach added a note of caution: ten internationals back from selection, all fit, but players short of energy after a month without a game at the MKM.

  • Hull: Targett, who twisted an ankle in Friday training, is out, Jakirović confirmed it; Morita and Norton-Cuffy are back in training but stay out of the eleven, and the team sheet confirms the 5-4-1, with McBurnie alone up front.
  • Hull: Matazo (knee) out until February, Butland (arm) hoped for December, Gyabi (groin) still several weeks away.
  • Hull: Ansah (back) could miss two months; Hughes is back in individual training this week.
  • Hull: Iroegbunam, signed from Everton this summer, is struggling with a groin problem and misses the reunion; Mendy (concussion) starts.
  • Everton: Mykolenko, who left Ukraine’s camp injured at the start of October, does not start, and neither do Norgaard, after a behind-closed-doors match, nor Rohl; Garner and Dewsbury-Hall start, Grealish plays behind Barry.

Everton win 1-0 or they do not win

David Moyes’s team has not lost yet: nine points, seventh. Their last two wins carry the same score, 1-0 against Ipswich then against Wolves in the Cup. Up front, the summer loaned Jack Grealish from Manchester City and signed Hackney from Middlesbrough without bringing in a second striker after Beto left for Fiorentina: Barry remains the only number nine. Four of Everton’s last five matches have produced two goals or fewer. Off the pitch, the Friedkin Group is studying a sale of the club with the Moelis bank; Moyes, told on Friday morning, says he was surprised.

The price has already picked its side

On the eve of the match the 1X2 has slid towards Hull: Everton out to 2.18 at 1xbet, Hull in to 3.70 at 10BET, the draw at 3.52. On goals, under 2.5, noted at 1.88 on Wednesday, stands at 1.89 on Friday, and the over has tightened: the market keeps this match closed, a notch less locked than at the start of the week. That is still my scenario.

My bet: two goals or fewer, 0.5 units

My bet stays under 2.5 goals at 1.88 with 1xbet, Wednesday’s price. At that price, the market puts two goals or fewer a little above an even chance; I make it 56 %: Hull’s low block closes the spaces, Moyes’s Everton win 1-0 or do not win, and a timid promoted side hosting a frugal unbeaten team is a match of fine margins. Hull without Targett and an Everton without Mykolenko open a few gaps; heavy legs on both sides after the break point to a low-tempo game. The bet loses if the game opens up early, a goal at each end before Hull’s block gives way.

The stake follows: 0.5 units, $50. In practice: 0, 1 or 2 goals, the bet pays $43.85; three goals or more, it loses $50. 18+. Only bet what you can afford to lose. The staking rule can be worked out with the Kelly calculator; the bet will go on the public record as it stands, win or lose.

Four goals in twenty-six minutes

Final score: Hull City 2-2 Everton. A whole half kept the bet alive: nothing on the board at the break, and a Johnson goal ruled out by VAR as early as the 34th minute. Then everything opened at once: Gelhardt on 48, Dewsbury-Hall on 58, Barry on 68, Belloumi on 74, four goals in twenty-six minutes in front of 24,458. Everton stay unbeaten and leave with a point; Hull led, trailed, came back.

My bet lived until the 68th minute: under 2.5 goals at 1.88 with 1xbet, 0.5 units, $50 lost. Two goals still fitted, the third, Barry’s, broke the line. I feared a match that opened early; it waited for half time, then opened all at once, with both left-backs missing, Targett and Mykolenko, one on each side. Everton did not win, that part of my scenario held; it is the total that sank.
