Old Trafford stages the league’s busiest shooters against its quietest attack. Manchester United have taken more shots than any other Premier League side and turned them into five points; Tottenham have scored twice in five games, both goals arriving late in the home defeat by Aston Villa. A favourite that cannot finish, an outsider that cannot score: goals could be scarce on Saturday evening.

All those shots, one league win

Nothing wrong with the creating: nobody in the Premier League takes more shots than this United side. The trouble shows up in front of goal: one league win, twelfth place, an attack missing pieces. Šeško (leg), Ugarte (knee, ACL operated on), Heaton, De Ligt (back), Dorgu (hamstring) and Mazraoui all miss out. The official eleven is in: Lammens in goal, Yoro, Maguire, Lisandro Martínez and Shaw across the back, Tielemans and Mainoo in the middle. Diallo (a doubt this week), Bruno Fernandes and Mbeumo play behind Matheus Cunha, alone up front. Rashford and new signing Carlos Baleba do not start.

The schedule does not help either: United finished third last season and qualified for the Champions League, twenty extra matches that Tottenham, free of European football, do not have.

Spurs travel without their creators

No win, two points, two goals: De Zerbi’s Tottenham, rebuilt for more than £300 million, sit bottom. The attacking ward is empty:

  • Xavi Simons (knee): return pencilled in for late January.
  • Wilson Odobert (knee): out of the squad for several months.
  • Mykhailo Mudryk (ankle): targeted for the end of October.
  • Pedro Porro (hamstring): not yet back in full training, Gray starts at right-back.

Kulusevski, after more than 500 days out and an eleven-a-side in training during the break, does not start. The official teamsheet settles the back line: Van Hecke (foot) starts, Van de Ven (hand) misses out, Senesi partners him in front of Kinský, with Udogie on the left. Ahead of them, Tonali and Bergvall in the middle, Sávio, Gallagher and Kudus behind Solanke, alone up front. Spurs have failed to score in three of their last five matches.

United still have the edge in this fixture

Across the last 30 meetings, United lead 13 wins to 11, with six draws. The most recent league meeting, in February, ended 2-0 to United; Spurs have not won at Old Trafford since their 3-0 of September 2024.

At 1.76, the favourite is fully priced

United trade at 1.76 with 1xbet on Friday, the draw at 4.31, Tottenham at 4.67: the Spurs price is the only one to slip since the market opened at 4.75. The main handicap, United -0.75, is 1.85. The market believes in a home win without pricing in a rout, and it expects goals: the main total line sits at 3.25.

Under 3.5 goals at 1.712: 1.25 units

I take one step above the main line: under 3.5 goals at 1.712 with 1xbet, the same price I recorded on Wednesday evening. The winning script fits in one sentence: United keep the ball, convert one or two of their many chances, Spurs hold their shape without scoring, and the total stops at three or fewer. I make that 64%; the market has 57. The last 30 meetings average 2.83 goals a game: a line at 2.5 would demand a very tight game, the line at 3.5 lets a normal one through.

The losing script keeps its weight: United’s defence has conceded seven goals in the last five matches, all competitions, and the Spurs axis plays without Van de Ven, Senesi alongside Van Hecke. A reshaped central pairing against a side that shoots this much lifts the ceiling on goals. The line-ups change nothing in my reading: 64%, not more.

The stake: 1.25 units, $125. On a total of three goals or fewer, the bet pays $89 net; from four goals onwards, the $125 is gone. The stake comes from the unit stake calculator, not from my mood, and the result will land in my public record, win or lose. 18+. Only bet what you can afford to lose.

1-1: two late goals, the total never troubled

The scoreboard took 73 minutes to move: Bryan Mbeumo opened for United after combining with Matheus Cunha. Rodrigo Bentancur saw red in the 78th for a headbutt on Luke Shaw, and Dominic Solanke levelled in stoppage time (90+2): 1-1. United walked off to boos, one league win from six rounds; the point lifts Spurs off the bottom, not out of the relegation zone, still without a Premier League win since May.

For the pick, the total never came close to the line: 1-0 at the 90th minute, two goals at the final whistle. Under 3.5 goals, taken at 1.712 with 1xbet for 1.25 units ($125), returns the $89 promised. My scenario had Spurs failing to score: they held out 92 minutes, until the equaliser shorthanded.
