On Saturday, Racing 92 led Bayonne 17-10 at home in Créteil. They finished beaten 17-20, after two yellow cards in ten minutes and twenty minutes down to fourteen men. Thirteenth in the Top 14 with five points, one win in four rounds, they are still priced at 1.18 against Perpignan on Friday with Betway: 1.22 at the opening, 1.16 when I wrote these lines. Two snapshots, one verdict. That is what the market thinks of the USAP. I look at this match from the other side of the line.
Discipline keeps sinking Racing
The only win came on the road, 20-10 at La Rochelle. At Créteil, Racing lost to Lyon (31-48) and then to Bayonne after leading by seven. The season opened with a 64-5 hammering in Bordeaux. Patrice Collazo said it after the Bayonne game: “Discipline is what puts us in this mess.” Hassane Kolingar took a yellow in the 75th minute, Lucas Martin scored in the 77th, and the defensive bonus scraped at the end leaves the core problem untouched: this team keeps beating itself.
To host Perpignan, Collazo still plans without Wame Naituvi, suspended, and Léo Carbonneau, injured. No lineup has leaked on the eve of the match: the LNR sheet is still waiting for both teams, with Thibault Santamaria refereeing.
Tedder has the USAP moving again
Perpignan come from two clear home wins at Aimé-Giral: 43-29 over Castres, then 38-25 over Bordeaux-Bègles on Saturday. Tristan Tedder, moved to fullback, did everything against UBB: a try, a try assist, five kicks from five, sixteen points and a decisive 50-22. Ninth with nine points, the USAP also travel badly: beaten 28-26 away to Stade Français, hammered 50-13 at Montpellier, and without an away win in two years.
The treatment room filled up on Saturday night, and it will weigh on Laurent Labit’s choices:
- Joaquín Oviedo left Aimé-Giral on crutches; Labit now expects him out for “a large part of the season”;
- Paolo Garbisi took a concussion, and Ignacio Ruiz hurt the arch of his foot, with nothing official since;
- a list of seven absentees circulates without club confirmation, Sevu Reece included.
No official medical bulletin has come out of Perpignan: their team sheet will be a guessing game until the end. One certainty anyway: Cédate Gomes Sa, the tighthead signed from Lyon, is over his injury and set to play on Saturday.
The first four rounds, side by side:

Racing will win, but by how much?
Racing will probably win this match: more resources, against a weakened traveller. The ground itself helps little: two defeats in two outings at Créteil, and L’Indépendant calls it a match “virtually on neutral ground”. The bettor asks something else: by how much? The last meeting between the two was a six-point game, 37-31 to Racing on 31 January. A Racing side spending twenty minutes with fourteen men at home, a USAP side putting thirty-eight on Bordeaux-Bègles : I cannot see thirteen points between them. The line sits at 12.5, with 1.91 at 1xbet for Perpignan and 1.90 at Bet365 for Racing: the line says a tight match, the match odds say a stroll. My money follows the line.
My bet: Perpignan with a twelve-and-a-half-point start
I am taking USA Perpignan +12.5 points at 1.91 with 1xbet. It lands if the USAP win, draw or lose by twelve points or fewer; it falls if they lose by thirteen or more. I make it 56% likely, where the odds promise barely one chance in two. The edge is narrow, and so is the stake: 0.25 units, $25, for a potential gain of $22.75. To redo the maths, the Kelly calculator gives the same stake.
Win or lose, this bet goes on my public record. 18+. Only bet what you can afford to lose.
Créteil saw the widest Racing win of the season
Racing 92 beat Perpignan 55-25. Thirty points in it: the 12.5-point line never came near the score, and the USAP are still without an away win. I expected the tight game the last meeting promised, a six-point contest; instead Créteil produced the widest Racing win of the season.
USA Perpignan +12.5 at 1.91 with 1xbet is lost, $25 of minimum stake. My bet leaned on a Racing side that beats itself: they did not beat themselves this time, and the Catalan cushion paid the price for it. The 1.18 match price was right to the end.
