Section Paloise – Stade Toulousain: at 1.52, the missing men are already in the price

“I would have liked to keep playing for my club a bit longer…” Anthony Jelonch said as much in La Dépêche on Monday, and France called him up anyway. His line sums up round 8 of the Top 14: a fixture played inside the autumn Test window, when national squads keep most of their internationals and release only a few. On Sunday at the Hameau, Toulouse will field what they have left. They have plenty left, but the window has left holes: La Dépêche counts more than twenty absentees on the Toulouse side.

Still winning, still leaking

Toulouse travel to Pau as leaders, on six straight wins in all competitions before round 7, then a 38-33 win over Perpignan. That one closed in pain: 26 points conceded in the last twenty minutes, the attacking bonus gone up in smoke. Twice in a row now, the defence has leaked. Against a team that scores at home, that gets expensive.

More than twenty absentees, a second row to rebuild

The sick list reads at a glance:

• Protected by the national squad: Dupont, Ntamack and Cros are not expected to make the trip to Béarn.
• Doubts: Mauvaka, Gourgues and Brennan. Jelonch, called up by France, should still play according to the local press.
• In the infirmary: the locks Meafou, Flament and Vergé, Merkler, Aldegheri (concussion), Mallia (knee), Chocobares and Menoncello, hurt in the Champions Cup; Neti, suspended after his red card against Exeter.
• The good news: Roumat is back, alongside another piece of good news named Delpy. Richardis, concussed while playing for Agen in the Pro D2, is expected to miss the match.

My reading holds in one line: without Meafou, Flament, Vergé or Merkler, the Toulouse lineout will lean on replacements, and so will the driving maul. Without Cros, the breakdown loses its chief scavenger. I think the Toulouse set piece will be contestable on Sunday, and that is where the Section must push.

The Hameau holds, Brau-Boirie will not

Pau play at home, and the Hameau is an address where the Section do not lose: the only unbeaten team at home through the 2025-26 regular season, they have since beaten Castres there (35-26). Away from the Hameau, a different story: the defeat at Toulon cost them second place in the table. The Pau squad has its own injuries: Brau-Boirie, hurt in his left knee against Toulon, is reported out for around four months, though the operation has not been confirmed as done. And the status of Pau’s own internationals (Gailleton, Attissogbe, Auradou) is unsettled: the club have not published their unavailable list.

At 1.52, the absentees are already in the price

At 1.52 with Betano on Tuesday, Pau are clear favourites. The market has read the same squad lists I have: the price is already full of Toulouse’s missing men. Sunday’s real question is the margin. The main line, Pau at -5.5 points, was posted at 1.90 with 1xbet on Monday.

I give Pau a 54% chance of covering -5.5, against 49.1% at the market’s price. In practice they must win by at least six points: a clear win pays $22.50 net on a $25 stake; a win by one to five points, a draw or a defeat loses the stake. The Hameau, a Toulouse second row to rebuild: everything points the Section’s way. My doubt, plainly: without Brau-Boirie, and against the depth of Toulouse’s bench, a wide win is not guaranteed. Once the site blends my probability with the market’s, the edge melts away at 1.90. What remains is a thin conviction: 0.25 units, $25, the minimum stake.
