Alex Scott out of England squad and facing weeks on the sidelines

Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott has withdrawn from the England squad for Tuesday’s match against Czechia at Wembley after hurting himself in the 7-0 win in Croatia. The BBC says six to eight weeks; Sky Sports says only “several weeks”, with more scans to come.

Alex Scott’s first England start looked like a night to keep: a 7-0 win in Croatia on Saturday and praise from Thomas Tuchel. The Bournemouth midfielder played 70 minutes in the middle alongside Elliot Anderson, then asked to come off after feeling pain. The verdict arrived on Monday morning: he misses Czechia at Wembley on Tuesday and heads back to Bournemouth for further scans.

Two outlets, two diagnoses

Sky Sports and the BBC tell two different stories. Sky reports a tendon injury and “several weeks”, an initial estimate while further scans are planned. The BBC, through senior correspondent Sami Mokbel, puts the absence at six to eight weeks with a quadriceps issue. No replacement has been called up.

Little for Wembley, a lot for Bournemouth

Tuesday’s game will barely feel it. England are 1.14 with 10BET, a price taken on Sunday: the market gives them five wins in six against a Czechia side on zero points after three rounds. Scott, for his part, was one start into his England career.

Bournemouth will pay the bill. The BBC counts nine fixtures between 10 October and 8 November, starting at Chelsea on Saturday. Six to eight weeks out would swallow nearly all of that run. Sky also reports that Manchester City and Chelsea chased the midfielder last summer, and that Bournemouth held firm with two years left on his contract.
