Carlos Queiroz leaves Ghana again, two defeats into his second spell
The 73-year-old Portuguese has left the Black Stars for the second time in under three months, after two Africa Cup of Nations qualifying defeats.

On 29 September, Ghana led Gambia 2-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium. They lost 4-2. Two days later, on Thursday 1 October, the Ghana Football Association and Carlos Queiroz announced that his contract had been terminated by mutual agreement.
Appointed, gone, reappointed, gone again
- 13 April: Queiroz, 73, replaces Otto Addo, 72 days before the World Cup.
- Early July: a first exit, after the defeat by Colombia in the round of 32 (1-0, in Kansas City).
- 2 September: the federation brings him back to lead 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.
- 1 October: the second exit, two matches and two defeats in.
The statement reads like an amicable parting. Queiroz writes that “the necessary conditions were not fully established” and that “our recent performance added to the decision to bring this journey to an end”. The association promises to announce its technical arrangements “in due course” and names no interim coach. The Ghanaian website MyJoyOnline calls it a dismissal; ESPN, Foot Mercato and So Foot all follow the mutual-agreement line.
Bottom of the group, bench still empty
The sporting bill is plain: a 2-0 defeat in Bouaké against Ivory Coast on 24 September, the collapse against Gambia five days later, and Ghana bottom of Group C without a point. November brings the double-header against Somalia, decisive for qualification, and on Sunday a friendly against Morocco stays on the calendar the federation announced, with nobody confirmed on the bench.
An international side is built over months of shared work on the training ground. This one has changed head coach twice in five months, and the next man starts with Somalia looming in November. In Accra, urgency has become a habit.
