Dani Carvajal signs for Getafe six days after the president called the deal dead
Getafe have confirmed the signing of Dani Carvajal, the 34-year-old right-back without a club since leaving Real Madrid in June. Six days ago, the club’s president said the whole operation had broken down.

The video lasts about thirty seconds and the message that comes with it goes straight to the point: “Welcome to the Coliseum, Dani!” On Tuesday morning, Getafe confirmed the signing of Dani Carvajal, a 34-year-old right-back who has been a free agent since his Real Madrid contract expired in June. He arrives with 51 caps for Spain and 29 trophies, including six Champions Leagues and Euro 2024.
Foot Mercato reports a contract until 30 June 2027; Marca only writes “in principle until the end of the season”. The Spain international had turned down exotic offers to stay in European football, Foot Mercato wrote the day before the announcement.
The denial of 7 October, the signature of the 13th
On 7 October, Ángel Torres, the 74-year-old Getafe president, swept the whole operation aside on the Spanish TV show El Chiringuito: everything was broken, there was nothing there. The deal depended on Spanish financial fair play rules; we covered the collapse on 8 October.
Three days later, Marca quoted a more patient president: “Estamos pendientes de que Dani diga”, we are waiting for Dani to speak. By Monday, Foot Mercato reported, the paperwork was already changing hands. On Tuesday, the announcement landed.
Carvajal himself, stopped by the DAZN microphone on his way into the club’s offices, went no further than the conditional: “Vamos a ver cómo están los contratos. Ojalá que salga todo bien y podamos estar aquí” (“We will see how the contracts are. Hopefully everything goes well and we can be here”), Marca reported.
A serial winner for a club fighting relegation
Getafe lost 3-0 away at Barcelona three days ago, on matchday eight of LaLiga, and So Foot casts them in a survival season. Marca expects Carvajal to report to Bordalás. Not registered for the Conference League, he cannot play on Thursday in Craiova; his possible first appearance would come on Monday, at home against Rayo Vallecano.
