Flavien Tait retires at 33, nine months after leaving Rodez

Flavien Tait has announced his retirement on Wednesday, on Instagram: “After 14 years of professional football, it is time for me to turn a huge page in my life and announce the end of my career. I feel immense pride and deep gratitude for having been able to live my childhood dream.”

At 33, the attacking midfielder had been without a club for nine months.

From Châteauroux to Rodez, fourteen seasons

A professional at Châteauroux from 2012, Tait played 79 matches before joining Angers in 2016, where he added 87 appearances and discovered Ligue 1.

Rennes signed him in 2019: four seasons, 129 matches, 12 goals, and a French Cup won in 2019, as Foot Mercato recalls. Then Turkey in 2023: 41 matches with Samsunspor over two seasons, a spell at İstanbul Başakşehir in between. The last stop was Rodez: five matches in two and a half months, a departure in January, nothing since.

“Unique moments, engraved forever”

In his message, Tait looks back on European nights: “I lived my greatest European emotions: the Champions League, the Europa League and the Conference League. Unique moments, engraved forever.” He closes with: “A page turns today, but everything football has given me will stay with me forever.”

At 33, he ends a career of fourteen professional seasons and at least 341 club matches. His message says nothing about what comes next.
