Gonçalo Ramos explains why he left PSG for AC Milan

Three years at PSG without a run of starts: the striker tells Portuguese television about the frustration that took him to AC Milan.

Gonçalo Ramos explains why he left PSG for AC Milan

“In my three years at PSG, I don’t think I ever started four or five games in a row.” Gonçalo Ramos gave the interview to Portuguese television, on the show “Soltinhos pelo Mundo” on Canal 11. The line sums up his three seasons in Paris: 45 goals in 131 games, but never a place he kept. “There were times when I scored in four or five games in a row without starting once. To me it made no sense. I talked about it with my family.”

Dembélé through the middle, Ramos waiting

Signed from Benfica in summer 2023, on loan with a €65m option, the Portuguese lived behind Ousmane Dembélé, whom Luis Enrique moved into the centre: a useful substitute, 45 goals and 10 assists in three years, but never the coach’s first choice.

The exit grew through the winter. “I had reached a point where I only wanted one thing: to leave,” he says. The club said no: they first had to find a replacement. Luís Campos promised him a summer move, then one morning Jorge Mendes called him: the deal was done, and Ruben Amorim had already phoned him to convince him. Ramos joined AC Milan for a fee estimated at €74m, the most expensive signing in the Italian club’s history.

At Milan, the place he was after

Under Ruben Amorim the numbers are finally there: 3 goals and 1 assist in 10 games, 9 of them as a starter. “My life is happy, in a relaxed atmosphere. I play more, at a club that gives me more space to express myself.” Leaving still cost him: “It hurt to leave PSG, because the group was very close.”

The PSG he left travel to Le Havre on Friday, top of Ligue 1 with five straight wins. The market prices them at 1.264 with 1xbet, and our Le Havre vs PSG preview covers the game in full.
