Liverpool end Brighton’s winning run and climb to fourth
An own goal from Pascal Groß and Alexander Isak’s sixth of the season settled it in the first half: Liverpool climb to fourth, a point behind Brighton, whose run of four straight league wins ends at Anfield.

A 2-0 win without the ball
Still in doubt the day before because of the Boelo storm warning across northern England, according to Kicker, the game went ahead. And Liverpool settled it in four minutes: a Florian Wirtz shot deflected in by Pascal Groß (17th), then Alexander Isak, set up by Bradley Barcola (21st). 2-0, and Brighton never came back.
The numbers read like the reverse of the scoreline: 64% of possession for the Seagulls, one shot on target. Yasin Ayari missed a huge chance before the opener, then hit the post shortly afterwards; Ferdi Kadioglu went off injured inside the first ten minutes.
Liverpool won with 35.6% of the ball, their second-lowest share in a home Premier League win since 2003-04. Florian Wirtz, hurt on the ankle, went off on the hour and played it down: “I think it will be alright, it’s not too bad,” he told Sky Sports.
Isak accounts for more than half of Liverpool’s league goals
His 21st-minute finish was Alexander Isak’s sixth of the league season: more than half of Liverpool’s total of 11, with only Erling Haaland (9) ahead of him.
The Swede has now scored in three straight league games for the first time since January 2025. BBC Sport puts the season in context: signed for a British-record £125m from Newcastle in August 2025, he managed four goals in 22 games last season, breaking his leg in December.
Brighton lose for the first time since August and stay third on 16 points; Liverpool move above Chelsea into fourth, on 15. “This is the fourth win in a row, it feels good. We have to keep going, we still have points to recover,” said Andoni Iraola.
Liverpool were priced at 2.11 with 1xbet before kick-off and Brighton at 3.50, a favourite far from crushing, and settled in twenty-one minutes. I had taken the draw or Brighton at 1.76: that bet is down, and the settlement stays visible on the match page. 18+. Only bet what you can afford to lose.
