Marseille condemn looting of their Canebière store after 17 October protests
Olympique Marseille have condemned the looting of their official Canebière store, run by Puma, hit during the 17 October protests. The club has closed it “temporarily”, with no reopening date.

Olympique Marseille published a statement on Monday morning. “Olympique de Marseille condemns with the greatest firmness the acts of violence and looting of which its official store on the Canebière was the target, and expresses its solidarity with its partner Puma, which operates this store,” the club wrote. It also salutes those mobilised “from the first moments with commitment, composure and exemplary professionalism”.
The damage forced a closure: “These events caused significant material damage, compelling the Club to close this store to the public temporarily.” The club’s other Marseille shops stay open, and no reopening date has been given. The club does not date the looting: Foot Mercato places it over the weekend, on the margins of the 17 October protests, while Made in Marseillais reports it in the night from Sunday to Monday, by dozens of people, with an amateur video circulating on social media.
Not an isolated case
Lille suffered the same fate: the LOSC store on rue Faidherbe was looted over the same weekend and remains closed “until further notice”. In Marseille, the chamber of commerce counts more than 600 shops vandalised in the city centre, and the police prefecture puts the number of looters at 30,000.
The Vélodrome waits for Le Havre
On the pitch nothing changes: ninth on nine points after seven rounds, Marseille won 5-2 at Angers on Sunday and host Le Havre, eighteenth, at the Vélodrome next Sunday. The store waits for its windows.
