Marseille: Genesio points to a “cruel lack of commitment in both boxes” before the trip to Angers
Two days after the home defeat by Olympiacos (0-1), Bruno Genesio had his players watch the match again. His verdict before Angers: Marseille play well and do not finish.

Bruno Genesio scheduled the video session for the day after the 0-1 home defeat by Olympiacos in the Europa League. On Saturday, at his press conference before the trip to Angers, he gave his verdict: “We are cruelly lacking commitment in both boxes, both to score and on set pieces. We do very good things in our play. We have to make it count.” And the line that sums up the last eight matches: “We want to make sure of it, and in the end we cannot finish our moves.”
Eight matches, two wins
On Thursday evening, on Canal+, the count was already done: “It has now been eight matches, only two wins.” Six defeats, including four in a row in Europe, a first in Genesio’s career. RMC, quoting a statistics account, sees a first since Mario Zatelli (1964-1965): no Marseille coach had lost six of his first eight matches. In the table, Marseille sit 14th on six points, one place and one point behind Angers, Sunday’s hosts.
Genesio is looking for fixes: according to Foot Mercato, which credits L’Équipe, he has tried Ulisses Garcia, a left-back limited to 65 minutes this season, in midfield. Nothing confirms it elsewhere.
A diagnosis that backs the bet
A team that “does very good things” without finishing plays closed matches. That is the scenario of my match preview of Angers–Marseille: Marseille under 1.5 goals at 1.98 with 1xbet, a $50 stake, a bet that only loses if Marseille score twice. This week’s diagnosis points the same way. 18+. Only bet what you can afford to lose.
