PSG wanted Nico Williams in 2024, his agent reveals

“Everybody wanted Nico: Barça, Bayern Munich, PSG, Arsenal, Liverpool… Finding a player who says no to all of them is not easy.” Félix Tainta, Nico Williams’ agent, said it on the “Los Fulanos” podcast, picked up on Friday by the French press: in the summer of 2024, PSG were on the list of clubs chasing the Athletic Bilbao winger, fresh from winning the Euros with Spain.

The timeline says plenty about the player. In December 2023, Williams extended for three years in Bilbao, release clause unchanged; free to sign elsewhere from January 2024, he stayed. The next summer, the giants came back. Barcelona could buy him for €58m, according to Football España; the BBC put the old clause at €62m (£53m). Neither figure has been confirmed by Athletic.

Barcelona could not guarantee his registration

That is where the Catalan move died: the club could not guarantee the player’s registration under LaLiga’s 1:1 rule. “Nico had the idea of leaving, because he is ambitious,” Tainta added. The ambition stayed in Bilbao: in July 2025, Williams signed a ten-year deal at Athletic, with a new clause around €90m, again according to Football España. The winger has since become a world champion with Spain.

What it changes for Paris

The Paris interest rests on the agent’s word: no bid, no wage, no contract length appears in Friday’s pieces, and nobody at the club has confirmed the pursuit. So Foot notes the left flank has belonged to Bradley Barcola since. Saturday’s question at la Meinau is more concrete: sixth in Ligue 1 on eleven points, PSG have won five in a row in all competitions, including Wednesday’s 4-2 at Manchester City in the Champions League, and the market has them at 1.45 with 1xbet on Friday morning. Strasbourg, eleventh, beat this PSG at home in May 2025 (2-1), then lost to them there last February (1-2).
