RC Lens: Vincent Carlier steps up from the reserve team into Yannick Cahuzac’s staff
RC Lens have used the international break to complete their backroom staff: Vincent Carlier, reserve-team coach since 2022, joins the first team as one of Yannick Cahuzac’s assistants, and Walid Mesloub takes charge of the reserves.

Lens announced the change on 7 October, saying the club had used the international break to finalise its technical staff. Vincent Carlier steps up from the reserve team, which he has coached since 2022, to the first-team staff as one of Yannick Cahuzac’s assistants.
Carlier, 46, is a club man. A defender at Troyes, Angers and Nîmes, with 208 professional appearances, he moved into youth coaching at Nîmes and then ESTAC after his playing career. He has been at Lens since 2022 and already worked with the first-team staff every day, four seasons spent developing talents “Made in Gaillette”.
The succession is internal as well: Walid Mesloub, until now Carlier’s right-hand man with the reserves, takes charge until the end of the season, assisted by Anthony Rogie, who came through the club’s academy.
A staff completed from within
The promotion closes the rework started before the break: Yannick Cahuzac was promoted to head coach after the departure of Dino Toppmöller and his two assistants, Nelson Morgado and Ervin Skela. L’Équipe reports that Carlier completes the coaching set-up at the same level as Bilal Hamdi. From the first team down to the reserves, every coach in the technical staff now comes from inside the club.
For the bettor, this announcement moves no odds: no market prices a coaching seat. What it changes is the link between the academy and the first team, just as Cahuzac settles his game in charge of the club. After the break, what will matter for pricing this Lens side is the eleven Cahuzac picks, not the seats around him.
