Rennes v Olympiacos could be moved to 4 November because of the 5 November strike

The security arrangements at Roazhon Park could not be guaranteed on 5 November, the day of a national strike. Stade Rennais is reportedly in advanced contact with UEFA over moving the tie to Wednesday 4 November, and Saturday’s trip to Nice could also change.

Rennes v Olympiacos could be moved to 4 November because of the 5 November strike

Thursday 5 November, 18:45 at Roazhon Park: matchday four of the Europa League was meant to bring Rennes against Olympiacos. The same Thursday has been picked by the CFDT, CGT, FO, UNSA and FSU unions for a national day of strike and demonstrations. The Rennes schedule has to bend.

According to Ouest-France, “the prefecture would have told the Breton club that the security arrangements could not be guaranteed”, and Stade Rennais would be in “advanced contact with UEFA to arrange a new date”. The AFP, picked up by Foot Mercato, reports a possible move to Wednesday 4 November, with “a day of major social mobilisation” expected in France. So Foot confirms that a move to Tuesday or Wednesday evening has been discussed in recent hours. Nothing is official yet: no statement from the club, UEFA or the prefecture, and 4 November remains a working option.

Nice, on Friday night or Sunday

The trip to Nice, scheduled for Saturday 31 October at 17:15 at the Allianz Riviera, could be affected too: Ouest-France mentions a move to Friday evening or Sunday 1 November. Rennes travel there as Ligue 1 leaders, on 16 points from eight games.

The arithmetic is plain: played on Saturday, the Nice game leaves three full rest days before hosting Olympiacos; played on Sunday, two. A move to Tuesday 3 November would squeeze the margin further. Franck Haise’s side have been playing every three or four days since mid-October: a 1-1 draw with Sturm Graz, a 2-1 win over OFI Crete and a 2-2 draw at Juventus.

The market has priced nothing in

On the Nice v Rennes match-odds market, Rennes stand at 2.53 with 1xbet, a price opened on Saturday evening and unmoved since. The market cannot decide anything until the prefecture and UEFA have. This 1X2 will be read in the calendar first: the day of the trip to Nice and Rennes’ freshness will say more than any team news. 18+. Only bet what you can afford to lose. Next step: a statement from Stade Rennais, UEFA or the prefecture.
