Watford sign Krépin Diatta after Monaco contract expires
Krépin Diatta has joined Watford on a free transfer after leaving Monaco in June. The Senegal international, 27, has signed a one-year deal with an option for a further year.

Watford have confirmed the signing of Krépin Diatta on Thursday, 1 October: a one-year contract, plus an option for a further year, on a free transfer. The 27-year-old Senegal international had been without a club since his Monaco deal expired in June.
On the pitch, he is a right-sided player: a winger who can also play wing-back, and the club describe him as able to fill several positions down that flank. Diatta spent five and a half seasons at Monaco, with 114 appearances and 26 in the Champions League, after starting out in Norway with Sarpsborg 08 and a spell at Club Brugge. With Senegal, he played every minute of their four matches at the 2026 World Cup.
“Watford is a big club, playing in the Premier League not so long ago, and I believe that is where it should be.”
Diatta told the club website the project had become very clear in his mind after speaking with people there. Watford, he added, belongs back at that level.
Three months without a match
The challenge of the coming weeks is his match sharpness. Without a competitive game since June, Diatta has to rebuild his rhythm while Watford, 20th in the Championship with 8 points from 8 matches, play on.
His new contract also reopens the door to the national team: Senegal head coach Patrick Vieira had left him out of the current squad. “The answer is quite simple and clear: Krépin Diatta isn’t here because he doesn’t have a club,” Vieira said. That problem is solved; the fitness will take weeks.
