Women’s Club World Cup 2028: the United States to host the inaugural edition
FIFA’s Council Bureau has awarded the inaugural Women’s Club World Cup to the United States, scheduled for 5 to 30 January 2028. Seven clubs, including Arsenal and Barcelona, are already qualified.

FIFA’s Council Bureau decided on Thursday 22 October: the United States will host the inaugural Women’s Club World Cup, from 5 to 30 January 2028. The dates had been fixed since 17 December 2025, so the news of the day is the host country, picked for its proven record of staging FIFA competitions, the quality of its infrastructure and services, and the strong interest in women’s football in the country, according to FIFA’s statement.
The tournament will bring together 19 clubs from the six confederations, qualified on their results in the leading continental club competition between 2024 and 2027. Seven already hold their ticket:
- Arsenal (England) and Barcelona (Spain);
- Gotham FC (United States) and Club América (Mexico);
- Corinthians (Brazil), Wuhan Jiangda (China) and Naegohyang (North Korea).
Host cities are still to be announced, and FIFA has not yet detailed how the 19 places are split between the confederations. The competition will then run every four years. “These seven clubs, and a dozen more, will come together to show the strength and depth of women’s club football to a global audience”, said Dame Sarai Bareman, FIFA’s chief women’s football officer.
PSG to defend their trophy in Qatar in December
The same Bureau also settled the 2026 Intercontinental Cup: Qatar will stage its last three matches from 9 to 16 December, for the third year in a row. As winners of the last Champions League, PSG go straight into the final on 16 December in Doha, a year after beating Flamengo on penalties to lift the trophy. Derby of the Americas on 9 December, Challenger Cup on the 12th, then the final against PSG.
