Everton: Friedkin Group opens door to sale two years after takeover
Two years after the takeover, the Friedkin Group is exploring options including the sale of a controlling stake. No buyer, no price, no timetable: an open door, not a done sale.

Everton broke a rare kind of silence on Friday. A club statement said the Friedkin Group, the owner, is exploring new investment options for the club, including the potential sale of a controlling stake. Two years after buying Everton, the American group is now open to selling it.
Two years, one stadium, one rebuild
The group, run by the American billionaire Dan Friedkin and based in Houston, bought Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1% stake in December 2024. It inherited what the statement calls significant financial uncertainty. The stated priorities were stability, investment and finishing the new ground, Hill Dickinson Stadium, the stadium Everton moved to when they left Goodison Park. With that base built, the moment has come to consider Everton’s next chapter.
What the statement does not say
No price, no timetable, no named buyer. The group will only consider candidates it regards as good stewards of the club, and it can wait: according to L’Équipe, citing the American outlet The Athletic, it would only sell to an owner able to take the team up a level. The scope already differs between reports: ESPN writes that Everton is up for sale, while the statement itself only speaks of investment options. The door is open, the sale is not done. One last detail says a lot: manager David Moyes said last month he had never spoken to Dan Friedkin.
What it changes for bettors
For now, nothing in the odds. The club remains under Friedkin Group control and the team is settled: seventh in the Premier League, unbeaten in the league, and away at Hull City on Sunday at the MKM Stadium. The market makes Everton the favourite, at around 2.12. A mid-season sale can move lines, on transfers as on the stability of the dugout. Until a buyer shows up, there is nothing to factor into a bet. The full analysis of the trip to Hull is in our match preview.
