Monaco 3-0 Freiburg: Lamine Camara scores and earns Filipe Luis’s praise before hosting Lille

AS Monaco beat SC Freiburg 3-0 on Thursday evening. Paris Brunner, on his eighth goal in nine games this season, opened the scoring just before half-time, Lamine Camara doubled the lead and Ansu Fati added a third in stoppage time. Two wins in two Conference League outings: on six points, Monaco sit sixth in the league phase.

The midfielder had threatened well before his goal. His volley on 24 minutes forced Mio Backhaus into an early save, and the goal fell to the right man: an Ansu Fati attempt was repelled, Camara followed up and finished (2-0, 83rd minute).

Filipe Luis: “he is special”

At the post-match press conference, the Monaco head coach had his warmest words for his midfielder. “He never stops surprising me, he is special,” he said. L’Équipe runs the same line, headlining “I never see him tired” above a piece that presents Camara as “the other key man” at the club.

Sunday’s winner takes the advantage

Monaco host Lille on matchday 8 of Ligue 1 with both teams on 14 points: Lille fourth, Monaco fifth. The market makes the home side favourites, around 2.15 with 1xbet, with the LOSC at 3.86. Recent history leans the other way: Lille have won the last three league meetings between the two, including a 1-0 at Louis II last May.

Both clubs arrive on the back of defeats: Lille 2-4 against Galatasaray in the Champions League on Wednesday, Monaco 1-0 at Lorient last Sunday. The full reading of the game is in our Monaco-Lille match preview.
