Premier League: Coventry hammer Newcastle 4-1, first home win since 2001
In the relegation zone before kick-off, Coventry beat Newcastle 4-1 on Monday night: a first home win in the Premier League since April 2001, and a move out of the drop zone.

Coventry Building Society Arena had waited since April 2001. Jack Rudoni opened the scoring from the spot in the 6th minute, Sidiki Cherif doubled the lead just after the break (48th), and Coventry never let Newcastle back in: 4-1, 1-0 at half-time, to close round 6 on Monday night.
Sven Botman pulled one back (70th) without changing the story. Ellis Simms (81st) and Stephen Mfuni (86th) settled it in five minutes, and both had just come off the bench: Simms scored three minutes and 15 seconds after coming on, the fourth fastest goal by a substitute in the Premier League this season per Sky Sports, and Mfuni three minutes after his own introduction. Two changes, two goals.
Newcastle had the ball, Coventry had the match
Sky Sports gives Newcastle 66.7% of possession, 19 shots and 1.84 xG; Coventry 33.3%, 9 shots and 1.43 xG. Six shots on target apiece, one goal for the Magpies. “Huge result for Coventry. If they are going to stay in this division, it will be about their home form,” said Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports, which counts 9,310 days between Coventry home wins in the Premier League.
Out of the relegation zone
19th and in the relegation zone at kick-off on 3 points, Coventry climb to 14th on 6, level with Manchester United per Sky Sports. Newcastle, 11th before kick-off, stay on 8 points from six games.
